In the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, women have stepped up as leaders in some of the world’s most vulnerable countries. They are playing critical roles in healthcare, education, and community outreach, often with limited resources and support.
**Leading the Healthcare Response**
In countries like Afghanistan, where the healthcare system has been ravaged by decades of war, women have taken the lead in providing essential healthcare services. Dr. Shakila Mohammadi is a midwife who has been working in a hospital in Kabul for over 20 years. Despite the dangers and the lack of resources, she has continued to provide care for women and children throughout the pandemic.
